ATL 10.13.18 – 10.14.18

ADRIAN COLLEGE/CENTRAL MICHIGAN  (10/13-14) – The Bulldogs and the Chippewas met for a two game series, after previously meeting for a single game, where Adrian emerged victorious, 5-4, after an OT period was needed. During this series, the Bulldogs swept the Chippewas with scores of 8-0 and 10-2.

Saturday night’s game saw five first period goals from Adrian College. Jena Cruz (2), Olivia Stevens, Avery Huxter, and Katie Hayward had the goals to begin the game. The assists in period one came from Elle Vanantwerp, Maria Granger, Sara Knapp and Grace Pavlovich. Hayward would find two more goals in the second period to give her a hat trick. Hannah Chase, Kathleen Droba and Carlee Casteel would find points in assists in period two. Cruz would be the only goal scorer in the final period of the 8-0 win, which also gave her a hat trick. Knapp would grab her second assist the night on Cruz’s third goal. Cassandra Worden was in net for Central Michigan, while Victoria Poland and Hannah Taylor both saw time in for Adrian.

During Sunday’s rematch, Central Michigan would find the back of the net twice, with  Jessica Killingback and Alyssa Massa finding the back of the net. Killingback’s goal would come in the first period to make it a 2-1 game, and Massa’s goal, also in the first period, made it 4-2. However, the Bulldogs found a second win during the series, with a final score of 10-2. Adrian’s goal scorers were Stevens (1g), Pavlovich (1g, 1a), Cruz (1 GWG), Casteel (1g, 1a), Hayward (3g, 1a), Granger (1g), Cecilia Werner (1g), and Jessica Abraham (1g, 3a). Assists in the Bulldog win were from Huxter (1a), Chase (2a), and Morgan Lundin (1a). Worden was in the crease again for Central, making 34 stops on 44 shots faced. Poland also was in net for Adrian again stopping 15 of 17 shots.

The weekends third star goes to AC’s Chase (3a), second star belongs to AC’s Cruz (4g, one hat trick), and first star is awarded to AC’s Hayward (6g, 1a, two hat tricks).

NORTHERN MICHIGAN/MICHIGAN STATE (10/13-14) – The Wildcats of Northern Michigan came down to East Lansing for a two game CCWHA series with the Spartans of Michigan State.

Saturday night’s matchup saw a single goal difference, with Northern Michigan grabbing the win, 3-2. Shae Blewett of NMU found the game’s first goal at 8:30, with help from Lynessa Maninga. Shortly after, Savannah Schodowski of Michigan State would finish off a Spartan play with a goal. Cara Hodgins and Emily Awdish helping on goal one for MSU. The second period started with an Isabel Bossy goal to give Northern Michigan the lead. Blewett would find her second of the night to take a two goal lead, and also to end the second period of play. Michigan State would find the only goal in the third period from Erin Bailey, but the Wildcats held onto their one goal lead to finish the third period. Caelie Lane-Powers and Emily Lynch would be credited with the assists on the Bailey goal. Brianna Bangle was in net for the Wildcats, while Danielle Williams was in the crease for the Spartans.

Sunday morning’s game finished with a shutout for Bangle of Northern Michigan, and also for the sweep of the series. Anna Cockey, Victoria Wozniak (2), and Veronica Hiley grabbed the Wildcat goals. Cockey, Isabella Oldani, and Laris Herdus tallied the assists on the four goals. Caroline Quandt played in the crease for the Spartans in game two.

The third star of the weekend goes to NMU’s Cockey (1g, 1a), second star belongs to NMU’s Wozniak (2g), and first star of the weekend is awarded to NMU’s Blewett (2g, 1 GWG).
