NOTRE DAME/LAKE SUPERIOR STATE – Lake Superior State University hosted the Irish of Notre Dame in the first league series of the New Year. ND headed home with two wins, 8-0 and 9-3. Gretta Steigauf led the way in the first win with five points (4g,1a) whilke Kiera Dwyer added a few points of her own with three for the Irish (2g,1a). Marissa Kivi (1g,1a) and Caroline Riester (1g) tallied the other goals. Lauren Gabel (2a), Jacqueline Dunn (1a), Shannon Deasey (2a) and Kelsey DeGagne (1a) registered the helpers on the eight Notre Dame goals. Regina Engel was in net for the Irish stopping all nine shots faced. Vanessa Foerch was between the pipes for the Lakers making 36 saves on 44 shots on net.

Notre Dame’s Dwyer put up five points (4g,1a) on day two while Dunn handed out three helpers (3a). Madison Ratycz (1g,1a), Riester (1g), Noelle Rosa (2g) and Steigauf (1g,1a) helped with the Irish’s total of nine goals. Gabel (1a), Lauren Garatoni (1a), and DeGagne (1a) all had assists of their own. Sam Ayala was in net for ND to complete the sweep grabbing 10 saves from 13 shots. Lake Superior was led by Claire Woiderski (2g) and Moe Daigneault (2a). Kyra Dimicoli (1g), Erica Stefano (1a), and Paige Boucher (1a) tallied points towards the three Laker’s goals. Foerch was in net once again, making 47 stops on 56 shots faced.

Third star of the weekend goes to ND’s Steigauf (5g,2a), second star goes to LSSU’s Foerch (83/100), and first star belongs to ND’s Dwyer (6g,2a).

MSU/CAL-U – Michigan State took on non-conference opponent, California University of Pennsylvania, walking away with two ties, 1-1 and 4-4. The Spartans were led by in goals by Sherine Diffendal (2g), while Mary Al-Sheikh (2a) and Elise Penhollow (2a) led in assists. Shelby Gregoire (1g), Jennifer Meyer (1g) and Emily Kawka (1g,1a) grabbed the other goals in the 4-4 tie. Katie Iandoli (1a), Karina Lucchese (1a) and Tayler Losee (1a) all registered assists over the weekend. Izzy Morton grabbed both ties in net for Michigan State.

NORTHERN MICHIGAN/RAINY RIVER CC – Northern Michigan University played host to Rainy River Community College for their second meeting of the year. The Wildcats played tough but came out 0-2 against RRCC with scores of 2-5 and 0-3. Sierra Rusinek and Macy Schultz picked up the goals in the first game, while Katherine Pryor and Carlie Kangas each tallied an assist. Jenna Bales got the nod in net first, making 30 saves on 35 shots on goal, while Brianna Bangles picked up 33 saves from 36 shots in the second game.

AQUINAS/DAVENPORT (D1) – Division-1 Davenport University faced off with Division-2 Aquinas College in their first ever meeting. Katelyn Graczyk got the lone goal for the Saints with help from Brooke Forgar. Holly Ensley was in net for AQ, grabbing 33 saves on 38 shots faced. Lexie Boydston let the way with two goals for the Panthers. Adrienne Porcalla (1g,1a), Emily Ellis (1g), and Ashley Reese (1g) also contributed goals for Davenport. The assists were tallied by Megan Martin (1a), Katie Dubro (1a) and Jennifer Deane (2a). Dawn Solo got the nod in net for DU, making 18 saves on 19 shots on net.

AQUINAS/CAL-U – Aquinas finished off their weekend in another non-conference matchup, coming away with a 1-1 tie. Ensley was in net again, making 44 saves on 45 shots faced from California University of Pennsylvania. This time Maria Maguire tallied the goal for Aquinas while Graczyk registered the assist.
