For their efforts in helping their teams, the Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA) Division-2 Players of the Month for December, 2015 are: Central Michigan senior forward Sam Jenkins (Forward of the Month), Notre Dame defenseman Marissa Kivi (Defenseman of the Month) and of Michigan-Flint goaltender Lauren Barella (Goalie of the Month).
CCWHA FORWARD OF THE MONTH
Sam Jenkins, Sr., F
Jenkins helped Central Michigan to a split series against University of Michigan – Flint during the month of December. In the two game series, Jenkins tallied a total of seven goals. The first game had Jenkins with three points (2g,1a) with the Chips ultimately going into overtime, but coming up short. In the second game, CMU came back strong with a 7-1 win where Jenkins had five of the seven goals. Jenkins has collected a total of 24 points (13g,11a) during the first half of the season.
CCWHA DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH
Marissa Kivi, D
New Pargue, MN
Kivi helped the Irish of Notre Dame to a win and a tie against the Michigan State Spartans during Deember, 6-2 and 3-3. Kivi tallied a single goal in the 6-2 win, while grabbing two points (2a) in the 3-3 OT tie. Kivi has registered eight total points (3g,5a) over the first half of the season for Notre Dame.
CCWHA GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH
Lauren Barella, G/F
Barella was in net for the only series of December for UM-Flint, where the blue and yellow picked up a win and a loss against Central Michigan. While Barella also skates out as a forward for UMF, she picked up a 5-4 OT win and registered a 7-1 lost for UMF. In two games, Barella allowed just 11 goals while stopping 84 shots from a total of 95. Barella has seen in time in net for four games this season, picking up a 1-3-0 record with a 4.72 goals against averages and a .912 save percentage.
