D2 Around the League Nov. 21-22

LOYOLA/CENTRAL MICHIGAN – The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers came back to Michigan for the second week in a row, this time heading home with a sweep of their own. In the first win, 7-3, Loyola had goals tallied by Anne Welty (1g-1a), Andrea Malmquist (2g-1a), Torey Reinbold (2g-2a), Hannah Bergom (1g) and Giselle Medina (1g). Reinbold got the game-winning-goal while Kimberly Riley stopped 20 of 23 shots on net from the Chippewas. Central Michigan’s goals came from Sarah Smith (1g) and Sam Jenkins (1g), Smith’s goal coming from a power play opportunity and Jenkin’s goal registered while short-handed. Libbey Molnar, Jessica Marble, Mary Frank tallied the assists. Alex La Rue made 48 saves from 55 shots on net while also grabbing two assists.

In the second game of the series, Loyola snagged another win, 9-2 this time. Malquist (1g-1a), Chloe Zinter (2g-1a), Reinbold (3g), Medina (1g) snagged the goals for Loyola on Sunday. Kristen Sutera tallied four assists in the win while Riley stopped 12 of 14 shots on net. Olivia Soumis tallied both of Central Michigan’s goals in the game while Rebecca Turner (1a), Frank (1a) and Jenkins (1a) got the helpers. La Rue was in net again for CMU grabbing 40 saves on 49 shots on net.

The third star honors for the weekend series goes to Loyola’s Malmquist (3g-4a), second star is Central’s La Rue (88/104) and first star belongs to LUC’s Reinbold (5g-2a).

MICHIGAN STATE/NOTRE DAME– The Michigan State Spartans traveled to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where the Irish came out victorious, with a series sweep. The Notre Dame goals came from the sticks of Gretta Steigauf (1g), Grace Cummings (1g) and Kiera Dwyer (3g), while the assists were tallied by Madison Ratycz (1a), Marissa Kivi (1a), and Shannon Deasey (1a). Michigan State’s goal scorers were Mary Al-Sheikh (1g) and Katie Iandoli (1g) while Emily Kawka got the assist on Iandoli’s goal. Izzy Morton was in net for the Spartans and Regina Engel snagged the win for the Irish.

The second meeting of the series and the season gave Notre Dame another win, 3-0. Kivi (1g), and Gretta Steigauf (2g-1a) were the scorers of this game while Dwyer tallied an assist as well as Noelle Rosa (1a). Stankowicz picked up the shutout win and Kivi’s goal came on the man advantage.

Third star of the weekend recognition goes to Morton of Michigan State, second star is ND’s Steigauf (3g-1a) while the first star spot belongs to Notre Dame’s Dwyer (3g-1a).

AQUINAS/NORTHERN MICHIGAN – Northern Michigan University played host to the Saints of Aquinas College weekend with the Wildcats ending the weekend with two wins. Saturday’s game saw goals from Allison Carlson (5g-2a), Carlie Kangas (1g-1a), Katherine Pryor (1g-1a) and Macy Shultz (1g-1a) for Northern. Becca Gecks (1a), Sierra Rusinek (1a), Ciara Kangas (1a) and Adelle Gustafson (1a) tallied the helpers. Jenna Bales got the nod in net for NMU with 16 saves from 17 shots on net. Aquinas’s single goal came from Katelyn Graczyk with Maria Manko grabbing the assist. Holly Ensley stopped 23 shots out of 31 for AQ.

The Saints were shutout in the second game of the series, 8-0. Northern’s goals came from Kendall Turro (1g-2a), Carlson (3g-1a), Rusinek (1g), Ciara Kangas (2g-4a) and Vanessa Hiley (1g). Gecks (1a), Pryor (1a), and Shultz (1a) grabbed the apples in the win. Bales got the win in net with a perfect 20 for 20 on saves, while Ensley snagged 42 saves from 50 shots on net.

Third star honors for the weekend belong to Aquinas’ Ensley (65/81), second star goes to Northern’s Ciara Kangas (2g-5a), and first star is the Wildcat’s Carlson (8g-3a).
